Feeling Sketchy #74

I am very late with my post this week. I haven't been able to do much at all lately, just don't have the energy. Anyway, here is my card for the current sketch on the Feeling Sketchy Challenge Blog.

Feeling Sketchy Blog Hop

Welcome to the Feeling Sketchy Design Team Christmas blog hop!

Hopefully you've found your way here from Danielle's blog,

 I'm so excited to share my Christmas Card and Box of Gift Cards project.

 

 

 

When I started this project I didn't really have anything definite in mind except that I wanted to make some gift cards, so that's where I began. I made twelve gift cards all together, three of each design. I cut white cardstock using Spellbinders - Long Scalloped Rectangles then folded in half to create gift tag. Using the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder embossed just the top half of the tag.

The poinsettia topper was made using Spellbinders - Layered Poinsettia die and the holly swirl was made using Spellbinders - Holly Motifs die. Both the candy cane and stocking were cut using the Silhouette Cameo.

 

Next, I decided to make a box to hold them.

 

 

I am sure there are a million box templates somewhere on the internet but I could not find one that suited what I had in mind, so I came up with my own version. I put together a little step by step tutorial on how I made my box.

 

BASE (See template below)

1. Cut card to 15cm square
2. Score at 4cm on all 4 sides
3. Cut along score lines on each corner, just up to the first vertical score line. (See template below)
4. With the outside of the box facing you apply glue or tape to each of the 4 corners, parallel to the cuts.
5. Assemble base so that taped corners are inside the box.

LID (See template below)

1. Cut card to 12cm square
2. Score at 2.5cm on all 4 sides
3. (Optional) To emboss the lid using the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder cut several layers of chipboard, 7cm square, to the thickness of a Cuttlebug "B" plate. (Or the appropriate thickness to suit your die cutting machine). See photos.

4. (Optional) Using a punch of your choice, I used a Martha Stewart punch, punch around all four sides. Don't worry too much about the corners as we will be cutting these off. See photo.

 

5. Assemble the lid in the same manner as the base.

I then decorated the lid using the large flower from Spellbinders - Layered Poinsettia dies. Added some bling for the flower centre and highlighted with glitter.

For my card I used the same Spellbinders - Layered Poinsettia die and Swiss Dots Embossing Folder. The "JOY" sentiment was cut using the Cuttlebug - Fancy Pants alphabet die. This was then layered onto a Spellbinders - Fancy Tags 2 die. Added some bling to flower centre and glitter to highlight.

New Challenge at Imagine That!

We have a new challenge that has just started over on the Imagine That! Progressive Challenge Blog. This is the card I made as a member of the DT.

 

 

I wanted to make my card suitable for the birth of a new baby, boy or girl, so I used a teal/aqua colour.
